A NEW data storage and handling facility described as the first of its kind in the Asia Pacific, opened last week in an industrial park at Wyong North.
The $6 million Verb Data Centre is designed to provide small and large business operators with "any amount of IT they need".
"The benefit for a small business is that all they have to buy is a normal computer for their office and we do the rest. They have a monthly account and pay as they grow. We provide all the IT hardware, software and technical support and because the cost is shared with other users, big computer capacity is economically feasible for even tiny new companies," said Verb director, Damien Wilde.
Mr Wilde said Verb is operating with Hewlett Packard hardware in an extremely high density computer "micro" environment producing rack outputs six times greater than conventional data centres.
"We use specially built 20ft containers called modules starting with one module already employing 15 people. As demand grows we add modules thus containing the capital development cost to an as-needed basis," Mr Wilde said.
"We use cutting edge technology to provide powerful data back-up and disaster recovery for large corporations plus hosting IT services for anybody who needs particular functions but can't afford to buy, own and run their own complex systems," he said.
"We are also very green with low energy consumption."
