IF you want to do something worthwhile and can afford a couple of hours a month, you may be just the person to help Southlakes Carers continue to help others.
The Morisset-based organisation is funded by the Department of Ageing, Disability & Home Care and for 26 years has been providing the frail aged, disabled and their carers with social support, bus outings, luncheon club, social groups, transport (to shops, doctors and any other kind of appointment).
But to operate, the organisation requires a committee comprising up to 11 volunteers and at the end of next month the organisation will hold its annual meeting and elect a new steering panel.
"Anybody with some sort of professional skill is particularly welcome, but essentially we need people who simply care about the community, or rather about the people in it," Southlakes Carers project manager, Vivienne Bruce said.
"This is one organisation which provides a lot of people with a lot of fun - especially for many elderly people who otherwise would just sit at home and not go anywhere or see anybody for weeks on end."
Ms Bruce said being a committee member wasn't a demanding role.
"Apart from a couple of hours a month to attend a meeting, usually in the afternoon, all that is required is basic common sense and a desire to help people and it can be fun," Ms Bruce said.
