Clean Up Australia Day

10 Mar, 2011 01:00 AM
OF the estimated 562,511 volunteers who took part in the 21st Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, the Grebert family accounted for four of them.

"Last year we had a go at the oval, but this year we are going down the walking trails at the back of Goodwins Road," mum Elizabeth Grebert said.

"That area is basically bush and has become a favourite spot for illegal dumpers. There's a lot of rubbish down there," she said.

It's no coincidence that the family were wearing gloves, hats and using collection bags supplied by the sponsoring Commonwealth Bank.

Mrs Grebert works for the bank's high risk insurance department in Sydney.

Volunteers manned 7400 registered sites for the big clean-up, focusing on beaches, streets, parks, bushland and waterways.

You can still help by donating at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au or any Commonwealth Bank branch.
