NOVOCASTRIAN Leigh McKechnie, the home-grown golfer who famously won last year's NSW Open trophy by just one shot from James Nitties, will be one of the hot names at the 2010 Morisset Pro-Am next week.
Morisset Golf Club pro, David Stretton, said the $20,000 tournament will also have two new major sponsors.
Ian (the General) and Jenny Douglas have sponsored the tournament for 26 years but last year decided to give it a rest, as have fellow major sponsors Ian and Jenny Corlette from Corlette's Home Hardware.
"When we closed the door on 2009, we were all left a little empty with our major sponsor Ian and Jenny Douglas deciding after 26 years to step aside and give someone else a go," Stretton said. "Ian and Jenny Corlette have also had a hard year and decided to be fair and let someone else step up to the plate on the Friday, though Ian has continued as a sponsor."
Two new sponsors taking over the tournament naming rights are Brian and Danielle Koppman and Noraville Earthmovers. They have had a long association with sponsoring local events.
The 2010 Noraville Earthmovers Pro Am, as it is now called, kicks off on August 6 with the Quarry Mining sponsors day.
"The following two days will be the ever popular Noraville Earthmovers Pro Am when we will see the cream of our state and beyond converge on Morisset Country club to compete in a $20,000 event," Stretton said.
