Central Coast water authority becomes one step closer

26 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
AFTER many years of lobbying, Wyong and Gosford councils are another step nearer to protecting their water assets from a government grab with the formation of the Central Coast Water Corporation, controlled by themselves, becoming a real prospect.

A recent statement from Wyong Council said that following several joint meetings with both Gosford and Wyong Council's, an agreement has been reached with the Minister for Water Utilities, Phillip Costa, to amend the Central Coast Water Corporation Act 2006.

According to Wyong mayor, Bob Graham, both Councils have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

"The MOU sets out the amendments to provide Council with a greater control over the transfer of council assets and liabilities," Mayor Graham said.

"We have had a number of positive meetings with Phillip Costa and I have always come away from these meetings very impressed. Mr Costa understands the need for us to protect our assets and to protect jobs and the first step we have taken is to ensure that, as the process unfolds, those two items are taken care of."

He said the MOU is yet to be signed by both Central Coast Mayors and the Ministers.
