BRIGHTWATERS senior Bob Geelan says age is no barrier to becoming involved in Clean-Up Australia Day on Sunday.
"I'm 71, but I'm just a boy," Mr Geelan said.
"Age is as much a matter of attitude as it is chronology."
A member of Dora Creek Seventh Day Adventist Church, Mr Geelan has organised the local Clean-Up efforts for the past six years.
He will again be at the helm for this year's event on March 1 when people across the nation tidy their local communities.
"I used to be involved in the Rural Fire Service but I got to 65 and I retired," he said.
"Clean-up Australia Day's a bit less hectic and a bit less dangerous, and I still like to be involved in the community."
And he certainly is. Despite his so-called retired status, Mr Geelan works as a school bus driver and he volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
"If I stay home the wife reckons I have to do the ironing," he jokes.
Members of Mr Geelan's church answer the call to clean up Dora Creek, he says.
"But a lot of the public see the site and also join up so we get a good mix of a group," he said.
"With adult supervision, anyone from toddlers to blokes like me can take part."
