Avondale gets training grant

12 Nov, 2009 01:00 AM
AVONDALE school has been awarded $1.5 million from round two of the Federal Government's Trade Training Centres in Schools program to develop a new trade training centre in the combined grounds of its high and primary schools in Cooranbong.

Federal member for Charlton Greg Combet personally delivered the good news to an assembly of students at the school on Thursday.

"I am told Avondale already has a strong hospitality trade training centre and will use the funding to develop a construction industry training centre. It will be invaluable to those of you who will be employed in the building sector and will need that world class specialist education," Mr Combet said.

Mr Combet said the Rudd government has allocated $20 million for the Trade Training Centres in the Hunter region with Avondale being one of three consortiums to receive grants under round two of the scheme.

"The program aims to help young people become equipped with the skills they need to effectively participate in the workplace of tomorrow," he said.

Newcastle Community and Newcastle Catholic Schools were the other two recipients.
