LAKE Macquarie City Council and Hunter Resource Recovery are inviting residents to drop off a wide range of unwanted 'gizmos' at the next eWaste and Second Hand Saturday event this weekend.
Residents will be able to drop off broken or redundant computers and accessories, mobile phones, TVs, iPods, stereos, video players, microwave ovens, and other electronic items.
This event will take place at Solo Resource Recovery, 25-27 Oakdale Road, Gateshead between 8am and 12pm.
Council's Manager Sustainability, Alice Howe, said eWaste is a growing problem.
"As technology evolves, electronic devices are replaced at an exorbitant rate," Dr Howe said.
"Many people update their TVs and computers at Christmas. By collecting the unwanted electronic items before they enter the waste stream, we can reduce the environmental risk associated with metals going into landfill and recycle the valuable parts they contain."
The Life Cycle recycling service will also be available for residents to drop off unwanted household goods, such as bric-a-brac, linen, clothes, and books. For a complete list of acceptable Life Cycle items visit www.lifecyclehunter.com.au
