PETE Murray is back in business after an emotional three-year hiatus.
In 2009, Murray's marriage to wife Amanda Coutts ended, leaving him to start a new life with their two young sons.
After the breakdown of his relationship, Murray spent his days at home in Byron Bay keeping busy with the things he loves most: surfing, writing songs, and being a dad to sons Pedro, 4, and Charlie, 7.
After his break from the limelight, Murray has returned to the tour circuit. But his signature acoustic sound has not.
His latest release, Blue Sky Blue showcases a new, upbeat style.
Instead of writing a break-up record, the 41-year-old did the opposite.
"The album is very positive and all about being optimistic, a bright future and new beginnings," Murray said.
Driven by the electric guitar, the songs have more pump than any of Murray's previous three albums.
"I definitely wanted to change the sound from what I've done, get off the acoustic guitar for starters, and get on to electric and have a bit more of a groove behind the songs," Murray said.
"I really wanted to make an album that was going to be great fun for me to play live."
Murray's personal favourites on the album are Blue Sky Blue, Led and Broken.
He hopes listeners will draw their own meaning from the songs.
"I kind of just rather let people listen to them and get their own ideas," Murray said.
"I find sometimes if I start to talk about what the message is for me then it takes away from what other people can get out of it."
Pete Murray performs at Mingara Recreation Club this Sunday, November 6.
Tickets cost $39.90 and are available by phoning the club on 4349 7888.
