Family show sure to be spectacular

15 Dec, 2011 01:00 AM
MORISSET Showground is the venue this Saturday night for the Southlake Christmas Spectacular.

Town centre coordinator Rosmairi Okeno said the event - now in its fifth year - was aptly named.

"This is the major Christmas show for the Southlake district, and we're expecting about 3000 people at the showground on Saturday," she said.

The running sheet for the night features an all-singing, all-dancing, high-flying list of entertainment.

The stage program kicks off at 5pm with performances from the MAD Dance group, local pop-punk band Glimmer of Hope, and Deborah Lee's Dance Academy.

Children's favourites The Little Scallywagz will hit the stage at 6.30pm.

The award-winning Toronto Brass Band will perform at 7pm.

"Carol singing through the night will be led by the Multicultural Church Choir," Ms Okeno said.

Santa is tipped to arrive at about 8pm, with local songbirds Rough Diamonds having a tough act to follow at 8.05pm.

Among the other performers will be Voyage of Irish Dance and Central Coast Drama Academy.

The event will culminate in a fireworks display at 9pm.

"This is a really beautiful family event with a lovely, safe atmosphere," Ms Okeno said.

Gates will open at 4pm, with amusement rides running until 8pm.

"Kids can pay $10 for a wristband which entitles them to unlimited rides," Ms Okeno said.

Entry to the showground costs $5 per car, or $2 for those entering on foot.

"Food will be available at the showground, but you're welcome to take a picnic."

Watched flying foxes freak out and scatter at the carols "fireworks spectacular " last Friday night in Toronto. Just when did reflective candles and harmonic carols turn so explosive? Fireworks are all very lovely, but it's absolutely terrifying for domestic and native animals. In fact, I thought it was illegal to deliberately distress native animals, let alone threatened and endangered ones.
