DARYL Braithwaite will perform one of the most anticipated gigs of the local summer when he plays at The Coast Hotel, Budgewoi, on Saturday, January 7.
Braithwaite (pictured) is one of Australia's favourite performers of the past 30 years, and is still a major drawcard.
Born in Melbourne in 1949, Braithwaite has won numerous musical awards.
He is knows for a distinctive voice that intuitively captures the mood of a song.
His initial success as a singer came with Sherbet, a band who in the 1970s produced 20 national top 40 singles and were the first Australian group to top the $1 million mark in album sales.
Sherbet's hit, Summer Love, became the highest selling single of 1975.
Another of their favourites, Howzat, reached No 1 in Australia and No 2 in England.
Braithwaite became indelibly etched into the Australian pop music scene as the often bare-chested lead singer with Sherbet, so he was understandably anxious to see how he would be received as a reinvented solo artist in 1988.
He need not have worried, because his solo act came with the release of the successful album Edge which spent more than a year in the national charts and spawned four hit singles - As The Days Go By, All I Do, Let Me Be and the gold single One Summer.
